Planning and Resources Guide by Mayfair Funeral Directors Perth

Many families look online for guidance about what will happen on the day of a cremation funeral service, especially when they are making at need arrangements and want a clear understanding of what to expect. This guide has been created by Mayfair Funeral Directors Perth to walk you through each step of a typical funeral day in Western Australia. It reflects local Perth practices, WA cemetery procedures and the compassionate care provided by our experienced team. Every funeral is personal and unique. The outline below describes a full cremation funeral service in a Perth cemetery chapel, noting that your cultural preferences, religious traditions and family choices may change some elements. Your Mayfair Funeral Director will guide you gently through each stage of the day.

Before the Service - Family Departure

On the morning of the service, your family limousine will arrive at the pre arranged time to collect the principal mourners. The family will then travel together in comfort to the cemetery chapel.

Loved Ones Transfer

Your loved one will travel separately in the hearse, accompanied by a floral casket spray chosen by your family. Our team ensures your loved one arrives respectfully and ahead of the service so the chapel can be prepared.

Chapel Preparation

Your Mayfair Funeral Director will arrive ahead of time to

  • lodge all legal documentation with the cemetery
  • prepare and set the chapel
  • place personal items such as framed photographs, flowers or memorabilia

This ensures the chapel is peaceful, welcoming and fully prepared before you arrive.

Arriving for the Cremation Funeral Service

You will enter through the designated family entrance at the cemetery chapel. Perth cremation chapels, including those at Pinnaroo Valley Memorial Park, Karrakatta Cemetery and Fremantle Cemetery, follow a respectful and structured process overseen by the Metropolitan Cemeteries Board.

Your loved one may already have arrived ahead of you if your preference is for the casket to be placed on the catafalque before the service begins. If your family wishes to pallbear the casket into the chapel, this will take place once family and friends have taken their seats and your Funeral Director has guided everyone through the next steps.

Upon your arrival, your Funeral Director will greet you, organise pallbearers if chosen and escort principal mourners to the front rows reserved for family.

Entering the Cemetery Chapel

When your family is ready, the Mayfair attendants will open the chapel doors and welcome mourners inside.

If the casket has not been pre placed, your loved one will be brought from the hearse on a specialised chapel trolley. Pallbearers will then gently guide the casket into the chapel.

The casket is placed upon the catafalque. Your Funeral Director and team ensure the placement is correct and then bow together with the pallbearers as a sign of respect.

The celebrant, clergy or chosen speaker will then welcome guests and begin the service.

The Funeral Service

A cremation funeral service can be personalised in many ways. A commonly chosen order of service may include

  • Welcome by celebrant, clergy or speaker
  • Acknowledgement of your loved one
  • Life tribute or shared memories
  • Poem, prayer, blessing or meaningful reading
  • Eulogies from family and friends
  • Reflections or additional readings
  • A photo and video tribute with music, lasting around three to four minutes
  • Quiet time for personal reflection
  • Final prayer or blessing
  • Committal words if chosen for cremation
  • Guests then proceed to the condolence lounge if selected

Each element can be tailored to reflect your cultural traditions, religious beliefs or personal preferences.

Following the Service

After the conclusion of the service, and time spent in the adjoining condolence lounge if chosen, your family will be returned in the Mayfair stretch limousine to your preferred location.

This may be a family home, a private residence, a gathering venue or a place of significance. Your Funeral Director ensures a calm and respectful conclusion to the day.
